Cycle U is pleased to revive our indoor TT program for 2013. Indoor TTs are a great way to get a short, intense workout, start the competitive juices flowing, and track improvement with our recently upgraded CompuTrainer studio.
For winter 2013, we will be holding an 8-race series, with races on Friday evenings at 6:00pm at our Sand Point location. Races begin January 18 and run through March 8.
Riders score series points at individual races, and we are pleased to offer a prize purse at the end of the series (details below).

I’ve never raced before–am I getting in over my head?
This year, we are offering self-seeded categories for racers and non-racers, so even if this is your first taste of competitive riding, there is a place for you. Additionally, your competition can be yourself. We will periodically repeat a course so that you can track your improvement. Cycle U has always prided itself on being a supportive training environment. You will find only positive energy here.
What category do I belong in?
Generally, if you hold a USAC racing license, you will be in your “A” category. Consult your instructor if you are unsure.
What do I need to bring?
All that you need to bring is your bike, riding clothes, and water bottle. We provide the trainers, towels, fans, and have a wide selection of nutrition from Hammer, Clif, PowerBar, Honey Stinger, and Gatorade.
How long are the races?
The races will vary from week to week. Mostly, we will keep them between 6-12 miles, which for most riders means a ride time of 15 – 30 minutes, depending on speed. Some courses will feature rolling terrain, some will be uphill, and some will be near-flat, so there is something for every skill set.
We offer two heats each night, in case you want to double the workout. Your $10 registration covers both heats, though you are still free to cool down after your first race.
What can I do with the power data?
Post-race power analysis can be a useful tool, both for tracking fitness and for improving pacing. We can export power files for viewing in TrainingPeaks, Strava, Garmin Connect, WKO+, and most other power analysis programs.

How are Series Points Calculated?
Series points accumulate at each race, according to the following progression:
15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Each rider can score only once per night, based on his/her best heat. Points are scored within each field (Men’s A, Women’s A, Men’s B, Women’s B) individually. If there are fewer than 10 racers in a field, points go as deep as the field (eg. an 8-racer field: 10, 8, 6…).
There may be occasional Sprint / KOM bonus points available, which will be announced ahead of time.
How does the CompuTrainer calculate my power?
CompuTrainers use a combination of speed, acceleration, and rolling resistance to calculate power. We have found their measurements to be within 1.5% of crank and wheel-based power meters. They are very simple to calibrate, and there is always a coach on duty to help you get set up.
What about this prize list?
Men’s and women’s overall winners will receive $100 cash plus an INDOOR TT CHAMPION jersey (pictures coming soon).
